Performance
Chevy has equipped the 2025 Suburban with the same choice of engines as in prior years of the twelfth-generation model. However, it has improved one of the engine options, giving you more performance than the 2024 model. Three Engine Options
The base engine that comes standard on all trims except the High Country is a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 gas engine. Essentially, it shuts down some of the engine’s cylinders when the extra power isn't needed, resulting in more efficient performance. The engine has an output of 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
The High Country trim of the 2025 Suburban is equipped with a larger 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 gas engine. This is also available as an option on the Z71, RST, and Premier trim levels. It also has 16 valves and uses Dynamic Fuel Management technology and variable valve timing like the 5.3L engine, but has a higher output of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Chevy also offers an available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine on the Suburban. This is an inline-six engine with a dual overhead camshaft configuration that has 24 valves for its six cylinders. You can equip this option on any trim of the Suburban except for the entry-level LS. Chevy has improved the output of this engine for 2025, boosting it to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. This represents a 28 hp and 35 lb-ft torque increase over the turbo-diesel engine in the 2024 Suburban.
Fuel Economy
While the Suburban won’t give you the efficiency you would find in a compact model, it actually delivers solid numbers for a three-row, full-size SUV. Depending on the engine you choose, you can enjoy fuel economy numbers that won't damage your budget.
The engine that provides the best fuel economy is the Duramax turbo-diesel. This will give you an EPA-estimated 23 MPG combined when equipped with rear-wheel drive. The base 5.3L V8 gives you a respectable 17 MPG combined with rear-wheel drive, while the 6.2L V8 has a solid 16 MPG combined with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The Duramax and 5.3L gas engine experience a slight decline in fuel efficiency when you choose a Suburban with four-wheel drive.
Speed and Acceleration
While the Chevy Suburban may not be a sports car, it still gives you solid speed and acceleration, something that will certainly come in handy when making a school run or merging onto a busy highway during rush hour.
