If you’re looking for a large full-size SUV that you can rely on as you head out on road trips, tow heavy loads, or drive your family around town, you can’t go wrong with a model that’s been in production longer than any other vehicle in automotive history, dating all the way back to 1935. That honor belongs to the Chevrolet Suburban.

Of course, you can’t keep a nameplate running for ninety years without making some significant changes. The 2025 Chevy Suburban is very, very different from the original Suburban, thanks to generations of upgrades, refreshes, and tweaks that have brought the SUV into the modern day. Here at Aggieland Chevrolet, we’re proud to sell models like this one that have been refined again and again over decades, making them as great as they can possibly be.

The 2025 Suburban has undergone a refresh, introducing a range of changes both inside and out. If you’re considering buying a new Suburban, you may well be interested in knowing the details. To make sure you have access to all the information you need to shop smart, we’ve put together this guide to the changes in this refresh, from the engine options under the hood to the styling touches on the surface. Let’s dive in and see what’s new.

Enhanced Performance for Demanding Drivers

Because the Suburban is a large and heavy SUV that also allows you to tow heavy loads, it needs plenty of strength to get the job done. The gas-powered V8 engine options from 2024 carry over to the new model, still offering plenty of horsepower and torque and allowing you to tow up to 8,200 lbs. The diesel engine, however, has been retuned for better performance.

Opt for the Duramax turbo-diesel I-6 and you’ll be getting the most fuel-efficient option in the lineup, rated for an EPA-estimated 26 MPG on the highway, which is convenient for long-haul trips. Without sacrificing its efficiency, the new version gains 28 hp and 35 lb-ft of torque for the 2025 model year, bringing the stats up to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.

Chevy did this by refining the turbo compressor, increasing the flow of the fuel injectors, and improving the engine’s cooling. New sound absorption materials have also been added to make for a quieter, more refined, and more comfortable ride. Upgrading to the diesel engine has never been more appealing.

But diesel-powered models aren’t the only ones with improved ride quality. The handling of the Suburban has been enhanced across all trims, with a new steering calibration and an updated suspension system delivering better responsiveness, making it feel a lot nimbler from behind the wheel.

Advanced Trailering Features for Confident Hauling

Many drivers opt for the Suburban because of its towing prowess, so Chevy has made sure to make trailering a top priority in this update. A properly configured 2025 Suburban can tow up to 8,200 lbs, giving you plenty of capacity to work with. However, there’s more to towing than just having the power to haul heavy loads—it’s also crucial to ensure that you can tow safely and drive with confidence, especially when towing a heavy trailer, which makes things even more complicated.

Chevy has long had a suite of innovative towing tech features, and they’re getting better and better with every iteration. For the 2025 refresh, the Suburban gets five new and enhanced features that make towing less of a hassle than ever before:

  • Trailer Navigation uses Google Maps to calculate routes with trailer size in mind, so you don’t get stuck at a bridge or tunnel that you can’t get past.
  • Trailer Tire Health monitors your trailer’s tires to help prevent blowouts, keeping you updated on their status and letting you know if you need to slow down to avoid trouble.
  • Load Rating Info is built into the Mobile Trailering App, giving you access to your vehicle’s load rating whenever and wherever you need it.
  • Boat Ramp Assist is also part of the Trailering App—this new feature gives you step-by-step instructions for towing, launching, and retrieving a boat, so you can have some stress-free fun out on the water.
  • Forward Path Indication adds guidelines to the Surround View, taking the trailer's width into account, to show you your path going forward. When you activate your turn signal, it will show the estimated path of your SUV and trailer, so you don’t have to do the geometry in your head.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Seamless Connectivity

Not all the new tech onboard the Suburban is focused on towing—the infotainment system is also new for 2025. On the 2024 model, the base trim featured an eight-inch touchscreen, while more premium trims got a larger 10.2-inch screen. For the 2025 model year, every single trim gets upgraded to a huge 17.7-inch display, which makes everything easier to see at a glance and operate quickly, so you can keep your attention on the road ahead. The screen is slightly tilted toward the driver, but is designed to still allow easy access for the front passenger.

This system has more than just big screens. Under the surface, it has a range of standard features designed to make your time behind the wheel as convenient as possible. Natural voice recognition and physical controls complement the touchscreen, giving you plenty of ways to enter commands. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you connect your smartphone to the vehicle’s interface, while Google built-in lets you use a variety of helpful apps with no phone at all.

Refined Cabin Comfort for Elevated Journeys

Thoughtful touches throughout the cabin make it more refined. There are new styling options throughout the lineup, with several exclusive colorways making each trim stand out with a unique sense of aesthetics, like the bold red contrast stitching in the sporty RST and the authentic wood trim in the luxurious High Country.

All trims get a new steering wheel design and benefit from the redesigned center console, which makes storage more convenient. The wireless charging pad that comes standard on all trims except for the base LS is now more conveniently positioned, so you can access it effortlessly.

Stylish Exterior Enhancements for Timeless Appeal

As a final cherry on top, the 2025 Suburban gets some fresh exterior style. The headlights have been revised to give the front end more personality and help it fit visually into Chevy’s modern lineup. There are also new front fascia designs, featuring unique design cues for different trims.

When you’re ready to pick a paint color, you’ll have two new options to choose from: Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic. These subtle changes come together to make the 2025 Suburban look more modern while still paying homage to its deep roots.

The Suburban Is Getting Better All the Time

With how long the Suburban has been around and gathering loyal fans, it would be easy for Chevy to rest on its laurels and not make too many changes. However, the automaker is committed to moving forward with the times and continually improving its lineup with every new model year.

The 2025 Suburban boasts improved driving dynamics, enhanced tech features, and a fresh, new look that’s sure to turn heads. It truly has something for everyone, from families to outdoor enthusiasts to road trip lovers.
